KPTI Day is December 5th!

11 11 2009

KPTI Day is December 5th!  KPTI Day is a great way to get to know the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute at Tufts Medical Center in Boston.  You will get to tour the facilities and also hear from some people that work in the hospital.  This event is completely free to all of you – lunch will be provided for a donation of $5 to KPTI.  Hope you will all be able to attend!

Amazing weekend in Maine!

19 10 2009

InterNECK 2009 was an amazing success!  We met our goal of 60 members for InterNECK.  There were 20 new members in attendance and we had 5 excellent workshops ranging in topics from District Projects to how to spice up your meetings!  I want to thank each and every one of you that attended.  I also want to send a shout out to USM – our fantastic host club this year.  The pirate theme was great and the decorations were very creative.  We were also able to do tons of service for Camp Mechuwana.  We pulled docks out of the water, moved and stacked picnic tables, moved firewood, and we made journals and play doh for a medical center in Maine.  The event was a lot of fun.

Miss out on InterNECK?  That’s ok!  We still have a few district-wide events coming up this year.  We have KPTI Day on December 5 – you can tour the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute in Boston, MA for free (with a small cost for lunch) and see where your money goes when you fundraise for this District Project.  Then February 26-28, 2010, New England will be celebrating 50 years of service at our annual District Convention in Concord, NH.

This school year is off to a great start, New England, and I’m excited to get to know you all better as the year goes on!  Got any fun club events you want me to attend?  Let me know at rich.cki@gmail.com!  Also, don’t forget – dues are due by December 1!  Talk to your club officers about how to become an official member of CKI!!!

No More Late Fees!

23 09 2009

No, this isn’t Blockbuster… it’s New England CKI!  We are proud to say that this year we are not going to charge any late fees for registrations.  The deadline has been extended to October 8th at midnight to give everyone extra time to make plans.  Since the camp we will be staying at for the event needs numbers, we do ask that you register by October 8th or we will be unable to accommodate you.  Registration is only $50 and is all inclusive for the weekend!

For more information about InterNECK, including a packing list and schedule of events, and to register online, visit www.necknews.org!  Can’t wait to see you all there!

Sub-Region F: Welcome Back, K-Reed!

24 08 2009

As you were all aware, no International Representative was elected for our sub-region during International Convention.  After the Convention in Alabama, the Governor’s met through a series of phone conferences to nominate and elect a new representative for Sub-Region F.  After tonight’s meeting, we have chosen Kristen Reed of the New York District as our new Sub-Region F Representative on the International Board.  Kristen served as Sub-Region F Representative in 2007-2008, and then as International President in 2008-2009.  She has a lot of experience and knows CKI and the Kiwanis Family very well.  So, congrats to Kristen and we hope to see her soon at some of our events this year in New England!  Kristen’s E-Mail address is: kristencki@gmail.com.

Kiwanis DCON

21 08 2009

This past weekend, I spent my time in Warwick, RI with members of New England Kiwanis for their annual District Convention.  Eduardo Sedillo, Kiwanis International Trustee, joined us for the Convention while we celebrated a year of achievements with Dick England as governor, and welcome in David Koohy as the new governor.  I spent most of my time with Emily George, Key Club governor, as we both were required to be present at various sessions and report on our own organizations.

Oh yeh, and NED came along, too!

LSSP, ICON, InterNECK – Oh My!

11 08 2009

LSSP/ICON: I know what you’re thinking, CKI… where did Rich go?  He hasn’t updated that blog of his in weeks.  Well, I went off to England and got a little behind on my updates!  Alas, I am back!  As soon as I got home from England, I flew right off again two days later to Birmingham, Alabama for CKI’s Annual Large Scale Service Project and 54th International Convention!  I had a great time meeting new people and doing tons of service.  We got a lot of business accomplished, too.  Unfortunately right now, we are without a Sub-Region F Representative.  If you are interested in the position, please let me know ASAP!  The governors of the Sub-Region are meeting this week to discuss these matters.  I will let you know when we have chosen a new Rep!

Board Meeting/Kiwanis DCON: Our board has been busy working on chartering new clubs, figuring out how to best recruit new members, and planning for our board meeting this weekend in Warwick, RI!  Our board meeting will be on Sunday, August 16th, as soon as the Kiwanis District Convention has ended.  Danielle Light, Katie Egan, and myself, will be in attendance at the Convention all weekend long.  I will be presenting at a luncheon along with Key Club Governor, Emily George, too!  Should be a great weekend.

President’s Council: Once our Board Meeting is over, I am also holding a meeting with all of the Presidents in an Online President’s Council Meeting on Monday, August 17th!  I’m really excited to get a chance to chat with your club presidents and see how things are going as we start off another school year.

InterNECK: Also, InterNECK is coming up: October 16-18, 2009!  Registration details will be out soon.  I hope to see you ALL there.  More info will be posted at necknews.org, too.  For now, though, enjoy a Promo video on NECK-TV at http://www.youtube.com/necktv!  Can’t wait to see everyone.

More updates to come soon!!!

‘ello from Oxford!

19 07 2009

Hey New England!  So as you all know, I am currently abroad in England studying at Oxford University.  I’m having a great time so far, and I hope you are enjoying your summer as well.  Things have been awfully crazy lately.  Lots of reading and papers to do.  Plus, I was quarantined for an entire week!  Yep, that’s right – trapped in my room with no social contact!  Note to all of you – never tell an English doctor that you aren’t feeling too well when they are going through a flu pandemic.  The doctors assumed that I had swine flu, so they quarantined me and gave me medication.  Unfortunately for me, I was fine – they didn’t believe it though!

I’m sure you are all anxiously awaiting some more news about Circle K from me.  With being sick and all of this work, I am a little behind with my newsletter!  I will be sure to get that out to you all very soon as there are definitely some good updates.

If you have any urgent problems, don’t hesitate to contact Tom Mitchell, our DST.  I’m still pretty good at responding to my e-mails, though, so if it isn’t 100% urgent – go ahead and e-mail me.

Cheers!

July in New England

1 07 2009

Happy July!  Well, the weather certainly doesn’t feel like it’s July in New England.  It’s been cold and rainy more than anything.  Just want to update you about a few things we are currently doing in New England CKI!

As a Board, we are currently working on a few major things…
- Preparing for International Convention! (August 5-8, 2009)
- Preparing for InterNECK 09 (October 16-18, 2009)
- Preparing for District Convention 2010 (February 26-28, 2010)
These are three VERY important Circle K events for our District over the next year, so we hope you can join us for all of them!  Our District Convention is especially important, so save the date!  We will be celebrating 50 years of service, so it will be a very exciting experience.  We are working on funding for this event to try and bring the cost down a bit for members.  If you’d like to help, please let me know!

As a Governor, I am working on one major thing:
- Preparing for New England One Day 2010!
I’m making this my Governor’s Project to create a large scale service event for the whole District to participate (Key Club and Kiwanis are invited, as well!).  The project is in its early stages, but I will keep you posted.  The event will most likely take place in early April, 2010.
